Ranjani
Murthy,
a 15 year old, dedicated Bharatha Natyam dancer
has been learning and performing from the age of
4, initially training under her mother, Bhavani
Murthy. She underwent training under Smt. Sudha
Chandrasekar also for about 6 years. Then, she took
further advanced training under Miss Bhanumati of
Bharatanjali troupe in Bangalore, India for 6 years.
She had her Arangetram in year 2005 under Miss Bhanumati
and Smt. Sheela Chandrasekar in Bangalore, India.
Her debut performance was well-received by dance
connosuiers in Bangalore. |
Sri Sridhar and Sri Praveen Kumar, both well-known
dancers from Bangalore had this to say about her:
“Her technique, lines, abhinaya and control
over laya was very pleasing and overall impact looked
like that of a seasoned dancer.”
Ranjani has also been training in Kuchipudi under
Smt. Sandhya Athmakuri for past 9 years, traveling
here to Detroit from TN for past 3 years every holiday
break to study this dance form. Ranjani has given
many kuchipudi performances with Smt. Sandya’s
troupe. She has also trained and performed in Carnatic
music for past 10 years under Smt. Kalpana Venkat
and Smt. Bhanumati Chari.
Ranjani has given over 100 solo and group performances
and has won numerous competitions in IL, PA, MI,
MD, and TN. Ranjani has performed for many charitable
organizations, like Aim for Seva, Asha for Education
in MI, Girls Inc. and Tsunami and Rotary International
in TN, many of the programs raising as much as $10,000.00
in TN. Recently she gave an hour and half recital
in Michigan, the funds from which was donated to
a local charity here. |
